Math groups #11

Math groups in the class are very fun! I love being in groups and try to solve the problem. My favourite game to play in math groups is the order of operations because we have to work together to find the solution. 

I also liked listening to the math videos because you can answer questions about the video after. I have a lot of fun doing that and being really into the video. I love a math groups and I hope we do it more often (: 

Blog #10 Mathletics

Mathletics is such a great online "helper" for math! 3 things Mathletics has helped me with is doing math equations quickly and knowing them faster than other people. This is called live Mathletics and there a series of levels. It also has helped me because there are tons of questions and they are in a series under categories. You can pick integers decimals and so much more, you can pick which ever one your not too good at or pick a more challenging one! Lastly, to make math more fun, you can make an aviator so you can use the coins from the levels to use for your aviator. It makes you enjoy math better than usual so you can be happier when you finish levels!

2 things I enjoy about this app is the competition, you can face people from all over the world :) It makes it more challenging, so you have to try your best! I love facing people from all over the world because you can test your knowledge on other countries around the world. Another reasons I think mathletics is pretty amazing because you can also play people just in your math class. This makes it so you can be competitive with your classmates. I love playing my friends because its really fun.

1 thing I would change about Mathletics is that I would make it have more levels. There are tons of levels but not enough for some categories! Some are very easy and not challenging what so ever! If they changed that,  I would totally be SO HAPPY about mathletics.

I love Mathletics a lot and I enjoy playing the levels and other things Mathletics has to provide. I will be very happy the next time we will do Mathletics. (: 

The struggles of math

I relate to a lot this guy has to say. One of the many things he said about what. Kids struggle most about math. I can totally relate to the NEATNESS part because I have very messy writing towards math. I have no clue why but I like to be messy and use my space to the extreme. Another term, I agree with is the space compartment. This is very important for some students because they need a lot of space because fractions require tons of room to figure out the problems. I completely agree for what he has to say, hands down. H

Fractions!!:)

My opinion on fractions is very very simple. I sometimes forget to make it neat so I can read my handwriting. I make errors like that. If I can make it neater then I will be great with fractions! I understand finding common denominators and flipping the reciprocals. 

MARKS.

Our marks are on a website called home logic. They used a item called weighted percent, they use it to "weigh" things heavier than others. Items out of 100 are gonna be weighted than something out of 5. They use this to make sure bigger projects are getting more marks then small quizzes. 

Calculators and how they are used to this day

My opinion on calculators is I don't think they are very necessary to this day. I think this because you should know your multiplication and division at this grade. I don't mind if calculators are used to double check answers. However, they shouldn't be used to check the answer first. If your at the grocery store and you need to know the better "deal". You should be able to use the correct strategy not your calculator. However, if it is very difficult , you would use your calculator.

I am trying not to use my calculator very much now,I am trying to use my own knowledge. I feel that technology is catching up and that you should use calculators smart. This is my personal preferences on calculators. 

App review

My math game that I tried out is Math Champ. My rating on this app is 4/5. My opinion on this App is a big thumbs up! I enjoy this app very much(: I liked this app because you can pick many different settings. You can have grade 4easy and grade9 hard. You can switch the setting to where your at so I really enjoy that. This app gives you a serious amount options, they ask you questions. You have a 1/4 chance of getting it right because they give you 4 options to get it. All in all , this app is really awesome. 

Another app is Math Heroes, this is app is about addition , subtraction , division and multiplication. In this app they ask you a question and with this you "kick or punch" the right answer to get a check mark to get to the end. You could almost call it s quest of some sort. I give this app 5/5.

Another app is Math Splat. This app is about finding the correct answer. This app helps you with multiplication and the other things. You get a question and you hit the correct one and it "splats". It makes learning or getting better at multiplication fun with colour. I give this app another 5/5 :) 

The last app I tried out is Math Expert and this app is about addition. For this app, you answer question like 5+2= ... And you have only a specific time to answer it. It goes it a circle form so when your done , you have finished around 15 questions to finish this circle shape. I gave this app a 4/5 

How does math affect your life?

Math affects my life because I have to know things without a calculator! I have to be able to be at the grocery store and know which deal is the best without a calculator. I have to use my knowledge to know what is right. 

Another situation , is if I'm making pizza, I have to know how much to make and if I making certain slices. I have to know fractions to make the right amount. 

Math , what's up with that?

My personal preference on Math is...

I really enjoy math because I like to figure out problems , and seeing how I can get better. I also like Math because I like Mr.Vernderman as a teacher! I really like multiplication and division. I enjoy not using a calculator because when I grow up, I have to be able to be on my own. 

I love using the iPads because I can see things a teacher can't always show in the classroom. It's really  fun to use the math games! I really hope I expand my learning for the year!
